- Invention: granted for 20 years.
- Utility model: granted for 15 years.

In addition to the types of patents mentioned above, the Law saves the Registration of Industrial Designs (granted for 10 years, extendable for over 15 years), which has for its purpose to protect exclusively the product's design with the advantage the registration is granted by INPI in about six (06) months.
